Christmas came early for me this year.

Look what Lynne found! It is an Ebenezer Goodes Toy sewing machine with a swing needle. c1872

Interestingly this one has two central screws in the middle of the bed to hold it to its base whereas the others I have seen in Photos have a forward and aft screw. Wonder if the two central screws created a weak spot. Makes sense. Any other theories??

She has a beautiful brass stitch plate.

Just goes to show you there are still wonderful finds out there that happen along when you least expect them :-)

Bye for Now

A very Successful show

Lynne and Rosemary set the scene with Quilts and Machines

Well it was the last day of a very successful show. We are tired but happy. Hopefully we have set a few more people along the path of collecting. The demonstrations were extremely well received. Young and old alike had much to say and were fascinated watching making the comment of how quiet they were. Quite a few people are going to send us emails in the hope of getting more information on their machines. Some are going home to check as they have forgotton exactly what their machine looks like.
Some made the comment that they had come especially to see the machines.
Rob thoroughly enjoyed himself talking nonstop for two days on sewing machines

Craft and Quilt show Adelaide

We have been very busy. Machines have been admired and reminisced about. Amazing how many Grandmothers had a Singer :-) People are really enjoying watching the handcranks being used. Rosemary, my friend has been showing some how to wind a bobbin and just how relaxing
using a treadle or handcrank actually is.
I have managed a little sewing but also a lot of talking.
Not hard is it when the topic of conversation is Sewing machines.

Here are a few photos of the display. Of Course quilts add to the atmosphere.
There has been a great reception and we have managed to hand out quite a few ISMACS flyers.
Rosemary was having a lot of fun with her Cranky Jane making Sawtooth Star blocks

Craft and Quilt show

Well Rob and I have just finished setting up a display of our Sewing Machines at the Craft and Quilt show on here in Adelaide Thursday 6th til Sunday 9th November. Hopefully we can promote and bring the pleasure of ISMACS to more of the public and encourage some of them to join.
A Friend and I will be sewing quilt blocks on both our favourite Hand cranks and demonstrating sewing on a Singer Treadle. Just like Grandma had :-) Our display is of machines across the ages. From an early Davis Vertical Feed Treadle c1876 to a late 222K Featherweight c1953.
Will take Photos and post them tomorrow night.
